An industry-standard, general-purpose phototransistor optocoupler, globally known as 4N35, housed in a breadboard-friendly 6-pin DIP (Through-Hole) package. This safety component consists of a gallium arsenide infrared emitting diode optically coupled to a monolithic silicon phototransistor. Featuring a high isolation voltage rating of up to 5000Vrms, it effectively prevents damage to microcontrollers from high-voltage spikes, switching transients, and ground loops. Uniquely, it provides external access to the phototransistor's base pin (Pin 6) for precise calibration of switching speeds and sensitivity. It is an indispensable component for relay driving circuits, industrial controllers, switch-mode power supplies (SMPS), and safe microcontroller interfacing.
